The sixth episode of Top of the World for 2017 welcomes a very special guest Singer-Songwriter and Story Teller Timothy James Bowen to the Podcast. In the middle of supporting Clare Bowen on her inaugural Australian Tour, Timothy joined us for a very special, intimate and personal conversation about being diagnosed and fighting end-stage blood cancer, how having an incredible support network of friends and family were vital to his recovery and how music through all of that of that continues to be a shining and inspiring life blood for him.
On May 25 this year Timothy Released a brand new 5-track EP ‘Bloom’, the first studio release since his remission. This collection of songs explores deeply the perspectives that he gained during his recovery. Timothy released his first self titled EP in 2013 and then spent the next few years travelling between Sydney and Nashville performing his songs. An impressive musical log began to accrue with multi cameo performances at the world renowned Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee, a co-write ‘From Here on Out’ which was chosen for Season 4 of Nashville and for that series’ soundtrack and a collaboration with Virgin Mobile Australia where the song ‘Answer the Call’ was written to tell the story through song of the ways that Australian’s connect with each other using technology.
Timothy was halfway through his Steel and Wood Tour across Australia when he was unexpectedly diagnosed with a blood cancer, Primary Mediastinal B Cell lymphoma and given 2 weeks to live. An immediate and intense chemotherapy regime ensued and with the love and support of his long-term girlfriend Christina and family at his side he began the courageous and life-changing journey of cancer patient and now cancer survivor.
The treatment put everything musical on hold with cancelled shows and having to delay the release of his next body of work, Steel and Wood. Steel and Wood was released in March 2016 and he returned triumphantly to the stage in May 2016, while still completing his last round of treatment to open for and play alongside his sister, Clare Bowen from the Hit US TV Show Nashville for her inaugural and sold out Australian Tour.
Timothy opened for the Milk Carton Kids in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in June/July 2015 and has shared the stage and bill with Clare Bowen, Brandon Robert Young, The Sweet Jelly Rolls, Maia Marsh, Emma Davis, Fanny Lumsden and Imogen Clark to name a few.
This Episode also includes songs from Julia Jacklin, Sam Buckingham, Clare Bowen, Shane Nicholson and Bonnie Raitt. Timothy also performed his brand new, yet to be released songs “Angels in Blue” and “Anchor” live in the studio.
We hope you enjoy this very special and rare conversation between Taryn La Fauci and Timothy James Bowen.
